Mentors

What is the role of a mentor?

Mentors serve as a supportive guide and sounding board for a participant during the summer. The goal is not to have all the answers, but to offer perspective, encouragement, and insight as participants navigate early career decisions and personal growth.

  • Mentors may:

  • Share professional experiences and career advice

  • Help mentees think through career interests or goals

  • Offer perspective on navigating internships or professional environments

  • Provide encouragement and support during an important stage of life.

Time Commitment

Mentorship is designed to be meaningful but manageable.

Mentors are asked to:

  • Attend one virtual mentor training in late May

  • Meet with their mentee approximately four times throughout the summer

  • Hold at least two meetings in person when possible

  • Attend the Mentor–Mentee Happy Hour (June) and networking event (July)

  • Participate in a brief check-in with Mason Hillel staff after the first meeting

  • Complete a short end-of-summer feedback survey

Meetings can be scheduled at times that work for both mentor and mentee.

It’s also a wonderful opportunity to meet other Jewish professionals in the region, strengthen community ties, and expand your network.

Whether you’re looking to mentor, share your professional journey, or simply connect with others in the community, everyone is welcome.
